Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur founded in 1992

Since opening in 1992, BCG in Kuala Lumpur has outgrown two locations and is now based in the city’s Golden Triangle area, within walking distance of the Petronas Twin Towers. The office consists of young, dynamic team members who are driven to help shape businesses and the market, creating impact for the firm’s clients.

Kuala Lumpur is one of five offices in Southeast Asia, and Kuala Lumpur-based consultants work on projects throughout the region. This office and the other SEA offices in Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, and Singapore work together as an integrated system with constant interaction among regional colleagues, sharing opportunities to transfer among those offices and BCG offices globally and to gain hands-on experience with a diverse mix of clients.

The client portfolio includes leading companies in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia, multinational corporations, and key public-sector agencies. BCG Kuala Lumpur has helped its clients put in place structural changes that have played a key role in the development of Malaysia’s economy.

Kuala Lumpur’s success is underpinned by an ability to attract and retain the best people. We recruit across the world and offer opportunities for dynamic and rewarding professional careers. Our staff includes individuals with eclectic backgrounds ranging from investment banking to law, engineering, and the arts. To enrich life outside of work, the BCG SEA staff organize social gatherings, events, and outings that feature a strong local flavor.

Social Impact

BCG in Malaysia collaborated with The Edge Educational Foundation to develop and implement the Programme for After Class Enrichment (PACE), which is designed to level the playing field so that low-performing children from impoverished homes can break the vicious cycle of poor educational outcomes. PACE provides opportunities for these students to develop their talent, ability, and motivation and to create a better future for themselves through education. BCG offered its expertise to help design a template for an after-school tuition program as part of its corporate social-responsibility initiative.

“Vicious-cycle problems are complex to solve because one cannot just deal with one problem. It requires a holistic answer,” says Vincent Chin, senior partner and managing director of BCG Southeast Asia. PACE will focus on helping students pass three core subjects: English, Bahasa Malaysia, and mathematics. In addition, PACE will equip these students with critical life skills such as financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills, making them more employable and improving their future prospects.

In addition to participating in pro bono efforts such as PACE, staff in Kuala Lumpur place a high priority on giving something back and are involved in a variety of community causes. Through the Give As You Earn, or GAYE, program, funds are collected to defray the cost of caring for underprivileged children in three Kuala Lumpur–based orphanages. These funds are matched dollar for dollar by BCG. Staff also volunteer to mentor and take these children on recreational and educational field trips. Through the Malaysian government’s corporate social-responsibility adopt-a-school program, BCGers in Kuala Lumpur both provide financial support and volunteer as mentors.
