Opened in 1984, BCG’s New York metro system has grown rapidly. It now includes the New York City and New Jersey offices and is our largest office system in the United States and one of the largest in the world. It has a broad client base that includes world leaders in five of BCG's industry practice areas—Financial Institutions, Health Care, Consumer and Retail, and Technology, Media, and Telecommunications—plus a growing position in Insurance. It also serves major players in private investing, including private equity and hedge funds.
In many ways, the culture and work of BCG in New York mirror the rest of the company: a laser focus on delivering value through unique insights into difficult issues; effective collaboration with clients to ensure that insight translates into impact; and establishing deep, sustained relationships with organizations that have the potential to build lasting advantage and shareholder value.
BCG in New York also has unique characteristics. First is an incredibly diverse community reflecting the character of New York. Our partners include many women and members of the African-American, Latino, and LGBT communities. More than half our partners and consulting staff were born outside the United States. This diversity enriches our community, and increases the value we bring our clients, who face increasingly complex global challenges.
Second, BCG’s New York metro system is very committed to the local and global community. Our staff is very involved in BCG's global social impact work, for organizations like Save the Children, the United Nations, and the Wildlife Conservation Society. At the local level, we work with partners such as the New York City Opera, the NYC Parks Department, and the City of Newark. We have an active volunteer program with many opportunities to participate, including mentoring local high school students and working with Junior Achievement. Our Green Team is also active in making sure the offices are environmentally friendly.
As large as we have become, the New York market still offers enormous growth potential for BCG. We have the good fortune of having a great team and a distinct market position in a large, vibrant business community. Maintaining our team’s strength and our growth momentum, along with a strong, passionate community, remains our highest priority.
