Metrics

Metrics are a system of parameters or ways of quantitative and periodic assessment of a process that is to be measured, along with the procedures to carry out such measurement. Metrics are usually specialized by the subject area, in which case they are valid only with a certain domain and cannot be directly benchmarked or interpreted outside of it.

Beware Averages tells us why statistics lie at certain times and why there are a number of cases where looking at averages can lead to misguided conclusions. "The only statistics you can trust are those you falsified yourself", said Winston Churchill.

Metrics was and is also an important topic for artists. Especially poets have always tested and pushed against the boundaries of meter, rhyme, and cadence in exploring the possibilities and constraint inherent in verse. Read English Verse and find out what makes a poem: is it rhyme, meter, or "poetic diction"?

Are things getting better or worse? In baseball, the latter seems to be the case. Loosing the Edge – the Extinction of the .400 Hitter addresses the demise of exceptional hitting performance in the sport of baseball.
