Philosophers, scientists, theologians - and even consultants - are engaged in a search for truth (or even The Truth). But what is this elusive entity and do we really need it? What do we mean when we say that something is true rather than useful, convenient, or appealing? What standards of proof do we require to say that our beliefs are true beliefs? We often rely quite successfully on information whose ultimate truth may be questionable and, likewise, some things that are clearly true are not very interesting or useful. The exhibits in this collection explore questions of truth, proof, and belief from many angles. They examine the bases for certainty and opportunities for deception. They also explore the shady line between truth and fiction and the myriad distortions and interpretations that often pass for objective truth. Allegory of the Cave The Matrix The Noble Lie |
