BCG has provided unparalleled growth opportunities. I joined in 1995 with little knowledge of business, and I have learnt much about strategy and bringing about change – both on the job and in the formal training on offer. With BCG's support, I also studied at Harvard.

For me, development at BCG has meant support to change course and follow my passions. Initially, I worked with private sector clients, focusing on corporate strategy and finance. I have since moved in new directions, helping to build BCG's Australian Public Sector practice.

Now that I have children, my flexible work model enables me to remain actively engaged with clients and teams.

In the flurry of client service, it would be easy to ignore the fundamentals of team development and personal interest in favor of immediate goals. Regardless of whether I have been working on a merger, due diligence involving large corporations, a strategic capital plan for hospitals, or sales growth plans for retailers, all my managers have shown great sensitivity to my knowledge-growth and skill-development goals.

At BCG, care is paid to individual and personal development. Just last week, a senior partner approached me after our Friday office lunch to see how I was doing, sincerely probing to find out whether I was getting the development and learning I wanted out of my current case experience.

Tony joined BCG in 2007. Before BCG, he worked as a consultant and case team leader at Monitor Group, where he focused on the retail-grocery and hospital industries.

Tony received his MBA from Tuck (Dartmouth) with distinction and holds master’s and bachelor’s of accountancy degrees from Brigham Young University.

I joined BCG as an Associate directly from university because I was hungry for a career that would enable me to have an impact and develop personally. BCG offers tremendous opportunities for a university graduate to work in partnership with the world’s biggest firms on their toughest strategic challenges, to learn from their leaders, and to help shape their future direction.

Each project requires me to apply my intellect, creativity, and energy to learning about a new industry, collaborating with a new set of people, and solving a new problem. As an Associate, I am responsible for leading my own module and developing my own ideas and client relationships whilst being supported by the coaching of my project leader and by BCG’s world class training program.

Samantika joined BCG in 2007 as an Associate.

Samantika holds a BA in economics and management from the University of Oxford.

After working for BCG for five years, I spent two years at Harvard Business School. Case studies of BCG projects were part of the curriculum. Students learn two things from these.

The first is, of course, that BCG strategies are implementable and are winners. Further, BCG insists on developing unique strategies that offer a wealth of insight. The second is that BCG supports each of its consultants so that they can develop unique strategies. At the same time, each consultant is responsible for his or her own development as a professional.

The work of developing and implementing unique strategies with the client is very worthwhile. It’s tough, but it’s fun. That’s because you grow each day. Being responsible for your own development as a professional is a serious matter, but as long as you continue to take on challenges, you will be supported.

I have been, and am even now, supported by many of my colleagues. I invite anyone who wants to develop as a professional and contribute to a client in a unique way to consider BCG.

Makio holds a BA in commerce from Hitotsubashi University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

When I joined BCG I expected to grow through exposure to various industries and topics.

This was possible, but the breadth of the learning environment proved greater than I imagined. We were all encouraged and supported to chart our own learning paths. In support of anyone with a particular passion, in my case financial services, the company does its best to accommodate individual preferences and development needs.

Apart from the formal training program, BCG’s mentor and collaborative culture creates learning opportunities every day.

Ernest joined BCG in 2006 and has worked primarily in financial services and telecommunications.

He has a master’s degree in chemical engineering from MIT and a bachelor of science (summa cum laude) in chemical engineering from Northwestern University.

It was only a few years ago that I was in my last year at college. I had a job offer in front of me and all I had to do was sign on the dotted line to define my near future: become part of BCG. I was aware of the importance of the decision. A stage in my life that I had enjoyed very much was coming to a close and a new one was about to start, where my main objective was to learn.

Today, now at BCG, I can say that this objective has been met, and exceeded. From day one I have been an active member of work teams for important clients. I have been in charge of work modules from beginning to end—collecting data, analyzing, synthesizing, developing conclusions, meeting with the client, and presenting to partners or the client. Things I never would have thought I was capable of doing I have discovered I am able to do, and do well.

Every day what I've done, what I’ve learned, and how I’ve developed—with respect to colleagues who have chosen other paths—has surged ahead and astonishes me. If, on top of all that, you do it with amazing people, what more can you ask for?
