This is a helping profession. This comment, made to me by a senior member of staff, has remained with me.
Our job is to support others, and that is exactly what we do. The beauty of BCG is being able to help our clients, and to grow personally through the experience.
I decided to join BCG because it represented a career challenge, and I was attracted by the stimulating environment where I could satisfy my intellectual curiosity.
While this impression has not changed, it has grown into a desire to be of service to the client. I want to be of service by meeting the wishes of corporate leaders, and addressing their various concerns. When clients respond to this desire to serve, real discussions can begin.
A client team member once worked late into the night with me in the middle of a typhoon to transform the plan for an executive presentation scheduled for the following day. By repeatedly questioning whether something is bringing the client real value, we arrive at what the true nature of our output is.
This is how we create trust that leads to insight and impact with the client. By developing in this way, consultants are able to increase the value they offer to the client. The satisfaction that comes from being a support professional is the best part of working at BCG.
