Working at BCG means great flexibility. I can really create my own career path here—it is not about being told what to do.

During my past projects, I was always given the freedom to develop my own ideas and come up with creative solutions.

In addition, BCG provides me the opportunity to specialize in a variety of practice areas and helps me to develop new skills that I need for my projects.

The most important thing in my job is to deliver excellent work for our clients, when and where I do it, is up to me. BCG does not evaluate me on how many hours I spend in the office, but on my performance within the projects.

Work at BCG is project-based and each is different, so my job is constantly changing. During a project BCG expects my full commitment to work, but it is easier to take off time between two projects. Also, there might be periods in my life where I will need to rebalance work and personal life.

With BCG, I can be assured that we can find the best solution for both the company and me, allowing me to still progress in my career.

Agnes joined BCG’s Moscow office in October 2007.

She received her education at the University of Marketing and Sales in Vienna and then studied for a year at the College of Europe in Warsaw.

Before joining BCG Agnes worked as administrative sales manager of German cogeneration plants in Russia and participated in various projects in the field of energy. She also was engaged in consulting activity in project management in Austria.

My time at BCG has been a tremendous growth experience—both professionally and personally! One of the greatest assignments I worked on was the design of a future automotive plant for the year 2030 for an international OEM (original equipment manufacturer). This was not only a challenge for me but also new ground for BCG.

A step along this path was a global study for innovation management that a colleague and I initiated. We conducted interviews with executives like Robert Peugeot from PSA and gained cutting-edge insights. Additional strategy projects abroad expanded my knowledge base well beyond Germany. For example, I have become familiar with other totally different business cultures, such as those of Japan and Norway. Last year, because of my growing knowledge, I was given the operational responsibility for a global OEM account.

For me, BCG is not just about working on challenging projects with interesting personalities or getting immersed in totally different cultures. It has allowed me to create my own career path, taking the breaks I needed for my family and my personal development. During my time with BCG, I took a sabbatical to get my Doctorate in Business Administration. When my first son was born, I took a 6-month leave to enjoy him and our new family life. I enjoyed the flexibility BCG offers me—for a while, I worked only four days a week. The fifth day I spent with my twins, who were one year old at that time—mostly on the playground!

Karsten joined BCG in 1998 after finishing his industrial engineering degree at the Technical University of Berlin and obtaining an MBA from the Bowling Green State University in the United States.

He was visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, and holds a doctor of philosophy in business administration from Bamberg University.

He joined Hilti Deutschland AG in 2009 as head of business segment industry marketing/key account.

I joined BCG because I wanted to learn about what makes a business tick.

I have a chemical engineering background, and therefore was not surprised that I was put to work on several energy cases. In less than two years, however, I was able to diversify the business sectors I worked in and ventured into the automotive industry, consumer finance, beverages, manufacturing, online services, telecommunications, and biosciences. My lack of a business background has never been a constraint.

BCG has a collegial atmosphere. Partners halfway around the world are happy to share their insights. This makes it a fantastic place to enable anyone to keep on learning.

Tomtor has a PhD in chemical engineering from the California Institute of Technology and a BS with distinction from Stanford University.

She joined BCG in Bangkok in 2006 and is a member of the local training and recruiting teams.

After a year researching Islamic banking, I remained keenly interested in the topic but wanted exposure to other industries. To get that exposure I joined BCG. I have now worked in industries as diverse as financial services, air freight, and telecommunications. My ongoing interest in Islamic finance is still prominent, however, and I was recently assigned to a lengthy project for an Islamic financial services provider. 

At BCG I have learned that you can find the opportunities you want—as long as you make an effort to go after them.

Ira has a BA in international relations, with distinction, from Stanford University.

As a Fulbright scholar in Singapore, he completed coursework in Islamic studies and researched Islamic banking.

Interaction with BCGers from diverse backgrounds and with unique visions has been a wonderful opportunity for me.

At BCG, you have mentors to guide you through various stages of your development—and learning doesn't stop there. Working with colleagues and alumni in various fields will also motivate and strengthen you.

After working at overseas offices, including Paris, Shanghai, and Brussels, and completing the Tokyo exchange program, I feel I have grown closer to my aspiration of becoming a global business leader.

Minjee majored in business administration at the Seoul National University.

She joined BCG as an associate consultant in 2005.

After college graduation, I looked for a job that would allow me to expand my skills beyond what I had learned in the classroom. BCG has provided me with an unparalleled opportunity to work closely with clients in a variety of industries, exposing me to top decision makers and leaders. 

For me, the best part of BCG is the people. We challenge each other, help each other, and laugh together. We come together as teams to help solve our clients’ problems. Whether I’m helping one of Canada’s largest retailers transform its business or developing an innovative marketing strategy for a global luxury-automobile manufacturer, I know the projects I’ve been involved in have generated value for our clients’ businesses. Personally and professionally, I couldn’t ask for more.

I remember when I was attending the BCG presentation during my MBA and I heard about the Ambassador program, I thought, I wish this would be the next step in my career. 

One and half years later I was packing my stuff to go to Los Angeles! This experience has allowed me to live the most interesting year of my life from both a professional and a personal perspective. 

BCG gave me a great opportunity to learn a lot in the consumer goods and health care industries and to get in contact with another culture.

Gianluca joined BCG in 2006 in the Milan office.

In 2007 he was selected as Ambassador to the Los Angeles office where he spent one and a half years. He is an active member of the Consumer Goods and Health Care practices.

Before joining BCG he worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers transaction services for two years and in the audit division for one and a half years.

He holds an MBA from SDA Bocconi and graduated with honors in economics from the University of Naples.

After my first child was born, I wanted to work fewer hours, travel less, and have more flexibility in my schedule. I had had a tremendous experience with BCG in client service and wanted to stay with the firm. 

When an opportunity arose to be part of BCG’s worldwide social impact team, I jumped at it. In my current role, I support our work with organizations like Save the Children and the World Food Programme, driving BCG’s internal communication, knowledge management and programs for our staff to work in non-profit organizations, like our social impact secondment program.

This job has been a great way for me to combine my passion for initiatives in the social sector with my desire to spend more time with my kids. I feel I have the best of both worlds.

Brenda holds a BA summa cum laude in quantitative economics and international relations from Tufts University, an MA from the School for Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business.

Brenda joined BCG’s New York office in 2000. She began as a consultant, working with clients in the consumer goods and pharmaceutical industries.

After starting a family, she chose to work part-time and shifted her focus from client work to internal firm work. Currently, she is the manager of BCG’s Social Impact Practice Network.

I love airplanes and airlines, I always have, so when I became a project leader in 2007, I realized that I wanted to work in the industry I have such a passion for.

BCG believes in charting your own course, so when they gave me the opportunity to become dedicated to the airline industry, it was an offer I could not refuse!

The last 12 months have been the most exciting of my tenure at BCG. I have worked on high impact airline projects in Europe and Australia and covered a wide range of topics, including a high profile sales process, a growth strategy for the client's freight division and the development of a more active corporate center that could better manage the different divisions.

Dirk-Maarten joined BCG in 2000, after receiving his masters of law from the University of Leiden.

Since then he has worked on projects in the airline industry, financial services, consumer goods, telecoms, industrial goods, railways and the automotive industry for BCG offices in Amsterdam, Sydney and Madrid.

In 2005, he graduated from Columbia Business School (Beta Gama Sigma honor society, Dean's List) in New York, focusing on finance and economics, and pricing.

Dirk-Maarten is married and has a son and a daughter.

At BCG, you truly are valued as an individual, regardless of your age, gender, or background, and you are encouraged to develop your individuality and areas of interests further.

In my case, I have focused on industrial goods companies, which have been my area of interest. I have been able to build a strong knowledge base on different industry sectors and have worked with various topics ranging from strategy development to pricing and process improvement.

For me, it has also been very important to build an international career, and at BCG I have been able to do projects in Europe and Asia.

Next year I’m going to work at the BCG Tokyo office with BCG’s Global Ambassador Program. I hope to deepen my knowledge in industrial goods industries and also to improve my Japanese there.

Kaori holds an MS in industrial engineering and management from the Helsinki University of Technology.

Before joining BCG, she worked for four years with KONE Elevators in Tokyo.

Kaori was born and raised in Finland but has her roots in Japan.

BCG’s commitment to training has given me a great learning platform.

With an engineering background and no formal business training, I benefited significantly from BCG’s structured training program. I have also absorbed a huge amount through on-the-job training case work.  BCG’s commitment to regular training ensures that we constantly improve ourselves and address our development needs. Boat joined BCG’s Singapore office in 2007.

Prior to BCG, he worked with the Singapore government in strategic planning for research and development  investment in energy and other emerging technologies.

Boat graduated with honors in biomedical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.

Initially, I was drawn to BCG by its reputation for intellectual rigor and by the impact BCG has had on business thinking.  After the first rounds of interviews, I was attracted by the quality of the people I met in Prague and Warsaw. 

Now I know that in addition to the people you work with, BCG offers unparalleled opportunities to pick your own path to learn and grow. In the past 6 years I have worked on projects in 7 countries from 4 different BCG offices on 2 continents and for clients in financial services, telecoms, energy and pharmaceuticals. And I know I have become part of a BCG network that will work beyond my stay at BCG.

Martin studied economics in Prague and at Stanford University in the US. He holds a Ph.D in Economics from CERGE-EI in Prague and an M.A. degree in International Trade from the Prague School of Economics.

He joined BCG in 2001.

I joined BCG thinking I’d forsaken my lifelong interest in science. My first case, however, was to design a healthcare strategy for an underdeveloped region of Malaysia. We focused on institutions ranging from tertiary hospitals to nursing homes. Later, I worked on cases in renewable energy and life sciences. Coming from the lab bench, it was exciting to navigate the business-end of science.

BCG has given me opportunities to explore my interests in new ways: to create a unique career path and work with people from around the world. Interesting cases, people, and places—they’re all there.

Nadiah graduated with an AB in biochemical sciences from Harvard and joined BCG Kuala Lumpur in 2007.

Before BCG, she worked at Children’s Hospital Boston as a virology researcher.

Before joining BCG, I had the opportunity to work in different emerging markets such as China and Latin America.

My goal has been to build on that experience and to learn more about operating in Russia. BCG offered a possibility to brush-up my Russian—first in weekly classes, and then in an intensive language course before the first casework in Russia.

Since then I have had the chance to work on a variety of cases, from short market studies to longer development projects in a full Russian setting.

I feel that BCG has offered an environment where I have been able to develop my career and capabilities to reach my goals. Furthermore, this was just the first step towards widening my experience through BCG's global network.

Tomi holds an MS in engineering from the Helsinki University of Technology.

Tomi joined BCG’s Helsinki office in 2007. Before joining BCG, Tomi had four years of industry experience working in China, Germany, and Latin America.
