From my first day at BCG, the firm has celebrated my uniqueness and empowered me to find my own voice.
While I was originally drawn to BCG for the opportunity to help clients solve their most complex strategic problems, BCG has provided me with opportunities extending far beyond this. As a consultant and project leader on our consulting team, I had the opportunity to support numerous clients across a variety of issues. The challenges that resonated most deeply with me were those related to organization design, change management, leadership, culture, and engagement. On these topics, I could feel myself thrive. I shared this passion with my mentors, who supported me in joining our global People & Organization practice, where I served clients in an expert capacity, wrote numerous articles, and line-managed a global team of experts.
While I relished the opportunity to provide expert counsel, the operations element of the role was an increasingly exciting component as I felt my muscles in this domain strengthen. As I was returning from my third maternity leave and considering next steps, our Canadian leadership approached me about a role that would allow me to bring all of my previous experiences to the fore. As the head of consulting experience for BCG Canada, I’m responsible for setting our talent strategy, overseeing our consulting team operations, and managing our key talent functions and a team of HR professionals. I am grateful for the way in which BCG has supported me as my passions have evolved and through key stages of my life.
Lisa holds a degree in political science and mass communication from Carleton University, and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business, where she was class valedictorian.
Q: How has BCG helped you grow and succeed?
A: As part of its development process, BCG places significant focus on identifying individuals’ strengths. In the moments at BCG when I’ve felt lost or discouraged, my mentors within the firm have always reminded me about my strengths, and have guided me to leverage them to solve the problems I am facing. This strength-based approach is what led me to my current role—and has allowed me to shine.
Q: What characteristics do you believe define a BCGer?
A: While BCG is an incredibly eclectic place, one common thread is that everyone is exceptionally curious and interested in improving the world around them. Standing in line at a sandwich shop with a group of BCGers, chances are everyone is thinking about an alternative approach to sandwich making that would enhance throughput!
I continue to be awed and inspired by the energy, passion, and commitment to excellence that everyone brings to work every day.
Q: What is something that has surprised you about working at BCG?
A: Given BCG’s reputation as one of the world’s leading strategy firms and the incredibly strong profile of individuals who join our team, I expected I’d be contending with a lot of egos! In fact, BCGers are incredibly humble. They are down to earth, modest, understated, and disarming. This is definitely one of the firm’s most endearing qualities, and an element that makes it a very comfortable environment in which to learn.
