At BCG, Challengers go against expected thinking and inspire their teams to be truly innovative. Inês has the courage to take action.

I feel constantly privileged to be surrounded by extremely intelligent and diverse people, who teach me so much and help me grow every day—and whom I consider true friends.

Inês

In Inês’s Words

As a university student, I knew I wanted my work to be a true challenge. I wanted to be in a dynamic environment that allowed me to learn and grow, exposed to multiple topics, and surrounded by incredible people. In my first contact with BCG during my second year of university, it was clear I had found my next step.

I joined BCG motivated by the dynamic problem-solving environment, which has allowed me to be immersed in such a wide range of industries (from the innovative world of mobility and self-driving cars to the day-to-day shelves of supermarkets) and a great variety of practice areas, including strategy, marketing, and organization.

The open working environment has made me feel relevant and valued since the very first day on the job, and I rapidly learned that seniority was not a requirement for any discussion. This has allowed me not only to grow and learn beyond my expectations but also to feel that I truly belong at BCG.

Q&A

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: There are two key aspects of my job that I truly love. The first is the very dynamic environment of different problems, different industries, and different geographies, which fosters a highly steep curve of learning and growth. The second, and it might sound cliché, is the people. It is an amazing privilege to be able to work with so many bright people who have become close friends and who make any project a fun and interesting challenge.

Q: Why is BCG a good place for a woman to work?

A: As a consultant, I have never felt I was treated as a “woman.” I was always given as many challenges and opportunities as any of my peers, and we all have our strengths and weaknesses, regardless of our gender. For our work and as in any team work, diversity in backgrounds, experiences, and gender, among other things, creates value to our recommendations and outputs. BCG strives to guarantee a diverse setting for every team. That being said, I truly appreciate BCG’s effort to make sure women can have sustainable careers, focusing on ensuring a higher predictability and flexibility for both men and women.

Q: What’s your home office environment like?

A: I work in the Lisbon office, which has around 50 consultants. Since the office is quite small, it strengthens our culture and makes us a very close group of people. I have gone to birthday parties and weddings and celebrated the births of first, second, and third children of my peers and my seniors. I am proud to say that some of my best friends work at BCG, and that it really feels like a welcoming and fun family.
