Mari Is an Insightful Seeker

Associate, Helsinki

At BCG, Seekers go deep into the challenging issues our clients face. Their curiosity empowers our teams to facilitate change and add value to society. Mari finds clarity in a complex world.

At BCG, starting on day one, you can start driving the path your career will take—or you can explore different directions for a while!

In Mari’s Words

During my time as a physics PhD student, I already had the feeling I might not stay long in academia. After graduating, I spent one year as a postdoctoral researcher, which confirmed this view. I decided to join BCG to keep up the level of challenge but also to work on a more practical level and see the impact of my work right away—not in 20 years time. I haven't regretted the transition!

To me, the key point about consulting and work at BCG is change and making it happen. Having worked a lot with data in my past, one of my key learnings at BCG has been that data and its analysis is usually the easy part. The tricky part is making the people in the client organization truly understand the need to change and want to make it happen. Luckily, we here at BCG enjoy the challenge.

About Mari

Mari studied chemical engineering and physics at Aalto University and holds a PhD in theoretical physics. Before joining BCG, she spent one year in the UK as a postdoctoral researcher.

Q: What was one of your favorite case experiences?

A: My favorite case experiences have been linked to big data, be it client interaction data or company internal databases. However, doing analysis is just one thing; it's much more rewarding to actually see your recommendation in action when walking around town!

Q: What’s your home office environment like?

A: The Helsinki office feels like a second home. The atmosphere is great, the hierarchy is flat, and I've met people that I can call my true friends.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: It never gets boring. No two working days are alike, and, as the projects typically last a few months, there's also plenty of variety in terms of clients, industries, and project types.
