Partner & Managing Director, Singapore
At BCG, Storytellers synthesize complex information and ideas. They believe in bringing the whole team together to get a broader perspective. Yew Heng finds clarity in a complex world.
What I care about most is sustained impact for the client
I have always had a love for understanding how things work and breaking down issues to their essentials. Being at BCG allows me to indulge in that and is what first attracted me to the firm.
What I have learned over the years is that while insights are interesting, they are ultimately only meaningful if we can move from insights to actions and impact. Achieving impact means working with the BCG and client teams and rolling up your sleeves to get things done. Achieving impact also means trying and failing, and trying something else again.
What ultimately keeps me at BCG is the people—mentors who have been frank and candid with their feedback and advice, clients who I have worked with hand-in-hand to transform their organizations, and teammates who have become lifelong friends.
There is never a dull day at BCG.
Yew Heng holds a master’s degree in engineering from TU Muenchen and was in the public sector in Singapore prior to joining BCG.
Q: What is a typical day like for you?
A: It is hard to describe a typical day at BCG. I could be on the shop floor at a client or huddling with the team to crack a problem. I could also be conducting training or interviews for BCG. I always try to squeeze in a meal with clients and colleagues. Finally, some time with my family caps a perfect day.
Q: If you weren’t working at BCG, what would you be doing?
A: I would find a problem, have a bunch of like minded people solve the problem together, and create something meaningful and fun.
Q: What does being a mentor mean to you?
A: It is a great responsibility. It means having a chance to support someone in his or her development. It means listening and being there. Being a consultant is demanding, and having a mentor to support, advise, and share the journey with is immensely important. I have had great mentors in my career and hope to be the same for others.
