Save the Children is the world’s leading independent organization for children. Save the Children works in around 120 countries to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.
BCG began its global partnership with Save the Children in 2006. As part of this commitment, BCG has supported Save the Children in improving its effectiveness on a wide range of strategic, operational, and organizational issues. BCG has worked alongside Save the Children on its highest priorities, which have included medium- and long-term strategy, country operations, fund-raising, and advocacy.
We have also worked on specific programs, such as their maternal- and newborn-health program and detailing and sharing the lessons learned from the organization's response to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. In 2014, we supported Save the Children with its Ebola response.
One of our most visible and transformative efforts is detailed here: our collaboration with Save the Children to embark on an ambitious, multiyear change program merging international operations into a single management structure.
Save the Children had operated as a loose alliance of member countries that worked independently and didn’t always have the same objectives or strategic priorities.
Over three years, BCG collaborated with the NGO on transforming Save the Children. We helped design a new organizational structure, set up the project management office, and monitored the overall progress, drawing on proven change management techniques from the private sector. Save the Children was driven to undertake the massive transformation so that it could have even greater impact on the lives of children.
Today the organization continues its transformation; it is making better use of its strengths and resources, speaking with a global voice, and having a greater than ever impact on the lives of the world's most marginalized and deprived children.

Jasmine Whitbread on Unifying Save the Children
When we started, we had lots of great ideas and visions; BCG brought process, rigor, and methodology to this and enabled us to have clarity on what we wanted and the benefits this would bring.
Our team has supported Save the Children in creating its 2016-18 strategy. The work has included reviewing the social sector landscape to understand the important trends and players and helping to prioritize the initiatives to ensure that Save the Children tackles the most important topics first.
I found that creating a strategy for a social sector organization requires a process remarkably similar to that used by our corporate clients.
It was fulfilling to be able to use our BCG skills and resources to help drive success at an important nonprofit.
