Tapping into the Bangladesh Opportunity

BCG’s Zarif Munir discusses the evolution of Bangladesh’s consuming class—and how companies must respond.

Zarif Munir joined The Boston Consulting Group in 1997. He is a core member of the Health Care and Industrial Goods practices. Before leaving temporarily to attend business school, Zarif worked in BCG’s Mexico and Kuala Lumpur offices.

Zarif’s client engagements have been in Southeast Asia, North Africa, Europe, and Latin America and have included a turnaround strategy for the largest oil-and-gas fabricator in Malaysia, a three-year transformation of one of the largest agrocommodity companies in Asia, and an operational-effectiveness study for an industrial goods company—including a shop-floor cost-and-complexity analysis to set performance benchmarks and increase system throughput.

Zarif is often invited to speak at regional health-care events and economic and innovation summits in Bangladesh, where he is from. He was a keynote speaker at Innovation Xtreme in 2014. In 2011 Zarif was interviewed by Pharma Boardroom on the gap between public and private health care in Malaysia and what can be done to bridge it.
