The variety of work, the pace of project and the talented colleagues at BCG really keep you on your toes."

A Personal Story

I joined BCG in Sydney having studied petroleum engineering. The degree had given me great opportunities, spending my summers working all around Australia in all manner of environments—from big cities to the middle of the desert.

What drew me to BCG, though, was something that a role in engineering didn't offer: the level of responsibility, the diversity of experience, and the rapid personal development. During my time at BCG, I worked in each of the telecommunications, banking, and airline industries, and I was also part of a major internal research project on pricing—which led me to work on projects in several different countries. I find the variety of work, the pace of each project, and the talented colleagues at BCG really keep you on your toes.

The breadth of work has continued—I've led projects in seven different industries from high-net-worth banking and asset management to coal mining and laminate manufacture. More importantly BCG keeps delivering new, everyday work challenges, such as leading teams, developing client relations, and presenting at industry forums.

There are also plenty of opportunities to get involved outside the work environment. At the moment I'm leading the Sydney offices "Fit'n'Healthy" team, which sees us fielding football squads and organizing office massages. And finally, I've come full circle. My most recent project was in the field of carbon capture and storage. There I was able to revisit my petroleum-engineering skills, apply organization-design skills learned at school and through BCG, and turn my mind to climate change issues.
