Christine Is an Insightful Storyteller

Principal, Montreal

At BCG, Storytellers synthesize complex information and ideas. They believe in bringing the whole team together to get a broader perspective. Christine finds clarity in a complex world.

The best part of working at BCG is helping our clients work on their most exciting and toughest issues.

In Christine’s Words

I am originally from Germany and studied languages, business, and cultural studies. My background is quite uncommon for the business world, but at BCG I have had the chance to apply my curiosity and sense for logic and structure to many different problems and industries.

BCG has given me the opportunity to explore different geographies, as well. I started my career in Frankfurt, Germany, and did my MBA at INSEAD in Singapore three years after joining the firm. I then transferred to the Paris office and two years later to Toronto.

In 2012 I got the chance to become part of the team that opened BCG’s Montréal office. To build an office from the ground up—being able to interview almost everybody who now works in the Montréal office—was a truly unique and gratifying experience.

About Christine

Christine studied languages and business at the University of Passau and the University of Extremadura (Spain). Christine also holds an MBA from INSEAD.

Q: Why did you choose to work at BCG?

A: BCG challenged me from day one. Every individual gets a lot of responsibility and counts a lot. One my first day at work, I developed a framework for how to evaluate acquisition targets in the energy contracting space. The next day, I led a client meeting to present this framework. Not many jobs give you this opportunity.

Q: How do you maintain a sustainable career balance at BCG?

A: The key for me is to define what is important to me outside of work and ensure I have enough time to pursue these things. A couple of elements in my private life always come first. I always take all my vacation days. It is very important to me to take time off and experience other parts of the world or see my family back home in Germany. Every two to three years, I try to take a longer period off to have a real break.

Q: Why is BCG a good place for a woman to work?

A: Business in general, and BCG in particular, is a great place for women in our time and going forward. The business world is just discovering the huge potential in these young women that typically outperform their male counterparts at school and university. BCG has been a great place for me personally. It was challenging when I wanted it and flexible when I needed it. There are many official and informal support mechanisms to make things work for women, be it career support or the need for flexibility.
