In Mara’s Words

Before joining BCG, I finished my master’s in multichannel trade management in textile business and had worked at different fashion companies. In the first years as a senior analyst in BCG’s Consumer practice, I was not only able to deepen my expertise within apparel but I also gained insight into many other retail sectors while supporting a variety of international projects.

Last autumn, BCG opened a totally new chapter and I was seconded to support our Social Impact practice as lead knowledge analyst. It is a privilege to combine my personal goals with my professional career, and I am very grateful to have the chance to contribute to BCG’s efforts and have a positive and lasting impact beyond the business domain.

Mara holds an MBA in multichannel trade management in textile business from Hamburg University of Applied Sciences.

Q&A

Q: How has BCG helped you grow and succeed?

A: BCG’s fast-paced environment is encouraging and offers lots of opportunities to personally develop and grow. Working on a day-to-day basis with inspiring individuals—and learning directly from people I consider role models—is very unique.

Q: If you weren’t working at BCG, what would you be doing?

A: I would probably follow my passion for the local food movement and work in a start-up, sourcing and distributing food manufactured in and around Munich.

Q: What are some of your volunteer or charitable work experiences?

A: My secondment with BCG’s Social Impact practice has helped me understand the huge impact BCG has—beyond all business dimensions. This impact is a result not only of our work with six global partners—Yunus, the World Food Programme, Save the Children, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Teach For All, and the WWF—but also the engagement of each of our offices through the local work BCG supports. Being part of this network is very fulfilling.
