Philip Whittaker on Upstream Oil

BCG’s Phillip Whittaker discusses the challenges and opportunities facing the upstream oil sector.

Philip Whittaker joined The Boston Consulting Group in 2007. He is a core member of the Energy practice, specializing in upstream oil and gas, oilfield services, and energy engineering.

Philip has more than 20 years’ experience in oil and gas exploration and production. As a consultant, he has worked with operators, national oil companies, and service companies in more than 25 countries on a range of strategic and operational issues.

Philip has led or supported successful efforts in developing growth strategies for a number of midsize oil companies, establishing contracting strategies for two frontier megaprojects, executing the turnaround of an oilfield service company's global operations, and carrying out multiple diligences in oil services, among many other projects.

Before beginning his consulting career, Philip worked with Shell International E&P, running onshore, jungle, and desert drilling operations in Europe, South America, and the Middle East.
