At BCG, Seekers go deep into the challenging issues our clients face. Their curiosity empowers our teams to facilitate change and add value to society. Andrea finds clarity in a complex world.
I love this quote from Thomas Jefferson as it represents what I have learned at BCG: ‘If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.’
I would love to introduce myself through a different angle as I believe that personality, not only background and education, defines a BCGer. What sets me apart is being a “dream maker.” We all dream, mainly at night. But some people also continue dreaming during the day and believe in the beauty of our dreams and our abilities and talents to make them happen in reality. I see myself in the second group, as I constantly work to make my dreams come true.
BCG is a truly wonderful place for dream makers, people who love to learn and try new things and change the world around them. From the very beginning, BCG has given me three things. I have been exposed to unrivaled opportunities and challenges that have helped me develop myself and grow on a professional as well as personal level. I have met numerous inspiring people who are interested in me and my ideas regardless of my position or tenure within BCG. Lastly, to my surprise, I can have a real-life impact on the world around me—and that is what matters to me.
Andrea holds a master’s degree in financial economics and macroeconomics and forecasting from CERGE-EI in Prague. Before joining BCG, she completed her summer internship with the firm and was also a member of the winning team at the BCG Strategy Cup.
Q: How do you maintain a sustainable career balance at BCG?
A: Despite all of the positives, a career at BCG is very demanding. There are ways to keep it sustainable, but they are up to the individual. You need to remain disciplined about it. For me, it is quite simple. I was a competitive swimmer for 13 years, and sports provide the right balance for me. I counterbalance the workload in various ways: with running I decompress, and through yoga I regain my inner balance. In addition, I love reading books, which also allows me to enhance my smarts and trigger my fantasies.
Q: Why is BCG a good place for a woman to work?
A: On a formal note, BCG has been consistently recognized as one of the best companies for women to work for, and we have several initiatives to support women to succeed in their careers and increase their job satisfaction. Beyond that, from the day I joined, I felt that BCG welcomes women and attempts to empower them to reach their full potential.
Q: When did you know belonged at BCG?
A: Throughout my university studies, I was broadening my horizons of potential career paths. For a long time, I was wandering in the darkness looking for a position and company that would appeal to me. It appeared to be impossible to find until my first encounter with BCG. All of a sudden, I found everything I was looking for: diverse projects in various industries dealing with the highest-level strategic business questions, inspiring people with fascinating interests, and work with far-reaching impact.
