Executive Assistant, Copenhagen
At BCG, Challengers go against expected thinking and inspire their teams to be truly innovative. Karina connects the dots to see the bigger picture.
I see my path at BCG as a trail I have paved. It is long and hilly at times, but it is always fun and interesting, with opportunities along the way. My trail has been paved while I was growing personally and professionally, and when I look back I see that I have left some marks by making a difference.
I was born in Japan and spent my childhood in Japan and the US, later moving to Denmark and earning my undergraduate degree in the UK. I thrive in international environments where I meet people from all around the world.
BCG has given me an opportunity to learn and grow every day, and I have been lucky enough to work on important and exciting challenges in a firm that partners with the world’s leading companies and organizations. My role has also given me great exposure to other colleagues around the world.
I am motivated by the many opportunities to multitask, meet deadlines, find the best solutions for the partner or client, and work as part of a team and contribute to client impact.
When I started at BCG in November 2005, there were only 30 to 40 of us in our local office, with only two partners. Now we have grown to more than 100 colleagues, and it is exciting that I have been part of this journey. This journey has also given me the chance to work in a different field—local recruiting—which has developed me further.
Karina holds an MA in history from the University of Copenhagen and a BA (with honors) in history from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom.
Q: What was one of your favorite case experiences?
A: Due diligence cases are some of my favorite cases. I have to stay very alert because the pace of the projects is usually faster. I enjoy working "behind the scenes," with a team committed to the client.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I work with incredible, supportive, intelligent, and fun colleagues and clients in a fast-paced environment where I am challenged every single day. No two days are the same! I revise my to-do list every day, and prioritization is a big part of my job—which also happens to be my clear strength.
Q: What are some of your favorite things to do outside of BCG?
A: Outside the office, I love spending time with my family. We have a toddler at home. I am an avid runner, and I love running with my running club. I run to unwind, and it is nice to be with my running buddies after a busy day in the office.
