At BCG, I have had the chance to work with amazing, talented people, and I have learned the true meaning of teamwork.
I am a lawyer, so I never thought I would end up in management consulting! I'm glad I did, though. I was looking for a dynamic, challenging, international, high-impact job where I would learn a lot, and that's exactly what I found at BCG.
At my previous jobs, my days got monotonous and I got bored easily. At BCG, there is no typical day of work. You get to work on a wide variety of topics and industries. In my first two years here, I have worked for an important telecommunications company, a global liquid natural gas conglomerate, a leading international bank, and a large supermarket chain, to name a few of my experiences!
In addition, there are unique international opportunities. You can work around the globe for a specific project, but also within some of BCG's international mobility programs, where you can spend a few months working in another office. Not to mention the possibility of being sponsored to get an MBA at one of the top universities worldwide!
Michelle holds a law degree from the Torcuato di Tella University in Buenos Aires, where she graduated with honors.
Q: What did you learn in your first year on the job?
A: Before joining BCG, everybody told me I would learn a lot on the job. I cannot begin to explain how right they were! The learning curve is incredibly fast and I have learned so much since I began working here.
I was afraid that, having a legal background, consulting would be harder for me. Turns out it wasn't: I felt truly supported at BCG, not only with the huge availability of learning resources, both online materials and global trainings, but mainly with the quality of people I have met here. Everybody, from partners to fellow associates, has always been willing to help me and contribute to my development. I believe this is one of the distinguishing features that makes BCG so unique: the people here are spectacular, and we support and help each other grow.
Q: What’s the biggest impact you have had with your work?
A: I have been lucky enough to work on many cases with a visible impact, but I would have to say that the biggest one involved working on the brand change for a major regional airline (of which I am also a frequent flyer!). It was amazing to experience the whole transformation from the customer's perspective—reading news about the brand change in newspapers, seeing the new brand image and uniforms at airports, observing changes in the frequent flyer program, and noticing ads on the street with the new logo.
Q: If you could go back in time and tell your 18-year-old self one thing, what would it be?
A: If I could go back in time, I would definitely tell myself to relax! Something I have learned over the years is that it is better not to stress too much about things—and this applies to both work and personal issues. There is a limit to the things you can influence, and it is useless to worry about what you can't control. I believe that the best you can do is keep a positive spirit and work hard toward your goals. You’ll enjoy life much more!
