In Chitoku’s Words

Prior to joining BCG, I worked at a digital music startup as the head of strategy. Though we offered truly innovative services and the business performance was not bad, the company had to be shut down due to shareholder issues. When I thought about my next step at that time, the criteria was clear: I wanted to be involved in bigger businesses than I had experienced to date, but I wanted to maintain my perspective from a top-management standpoint. And BCG seemed like a good choice for a person like me.

BCG has surpassed my expectations in both respects. BCG is always involved with gigantic issues, which are a source of huge impact when we successfully solve them. One internet service developed through my first project now has millions of users. One of my latest projects became a trigger for a tens of billions of dollars rise in shareholder value. And of course, projects at BCG are always with the top management of leading companies, and we are asked to contribute from the same view point as such clients. This is a really exciting opportunity.

Q&A

Q: What characteristics do you believe define a BCGer?

A: BCGers are good team players, collaborative and supportive, rather than superstar individuals. Warm and not-so-aggressive on the surface, however, passionate and strong inside. Always calm, open-minded, and entrepreneurial.

Q: What trends are you following and why?

A: I am spending more and more time these days learning and thinking about the future impact of the artificial intelligence and robotics. They will bring about significant changes to corporate management and strategy as well as to society. I believe that BCG’s expertise in strategy can contribute to the evolution and utilization of such new technologies.

Q: What groups or organizations have you gotten involved with at BCG (social or professional)?

A: I’m a core member of the Technology, Media, and Telecommunications practice area, and the corporate venture capital group in the Corporate Development & Finance practice area. Also I am a founding member of BCG Digital Ventures Tokyo, which launches this year.
