At BCG, Innovators view the world from unexpected angles. They bring creativity and a fresh perspective to every challenge they face. Kathinka has the courage to take action.
BCG supports me in my growth by on the one hand giving me full responsibility from day one, which can be scary sometimes, and on the other hand giving me all the support and confidence to succeed.
Already in the second year of my studies I knew strategy consultancy would fit perfectly with my ambitions and with what I was looking for in a job. Now that I am working at BCG, it is even better than I had imagined. Working together with great people both within BCG and on the clients' side—and the diverse case mix—gives me a lot of energy and new perspectives and feeds my drive to work at BCG.
The people working at BCG truly make it a unique place to work. To me, my colleagues are a perfect mix of being fun, interesting, emphatic, and down-to-earth. They make me feel at ease in a fast-moving business, make me smile after taking the time to catch up, and help me develop myself further by means of good conversations.
Kathinka holds an economics degree from Erasmus University and led the Dutch part of AIESEC, an international student organization, for a year.
Q: How has BCG helped you grow and succeed?
A: Working in strategy consultancy means that every day is different and that you will be confronted with challenging situations on a daily basis, which forces you to learn fast. The great thing about BCG is that it provides the safe environment to help you cope with these challenging situations and to enjoy every step along the way.
Q: What inspires you about BCG?
A: Every time I start on a project, I am amazed by how fast we can get to the core of the client's problem and how much value we can add to the client by joining forces within BCG and with the client. An asset of BCG, which is not known to everyone, is our large knowledge network in which the firm is building expertise every day. This backbone ensures we have the knowledge in-house and that we can generate solid analyses in short time periods for our clients.
Q: What are some of your volunteer or charitable work experiences?
A: Before I started working at BCG, I went to southern Africa for three months. I supported committees of a student organization to structure their finances and sales and provide inputs on ways of working. This experience has been great, sharing knowledge and getting insight in totally different ways of living. Working as a volunteer is challenging due to the many differences you will encounter and sometimes the barriers you have to face. Sometimes you can challenge these boundaries, but sometimes you also have to accept that things do not always go the way you are used to in your own surroundings, which opens your eyes to new insights.
