Carla Is an Imaginative Ally

Consultant, Amsterdam

At BCG, Allies bring a sense of collaboration and excitement to their teams. They create an atmosphere of trust and support in which people can do their best work. Carla connects the dots to see the bigger picture.

For me, BCG is like a roller-coaster. I’ve experienced ups and downs, but I was always surrounded by a great bunch of people, who were there to help me fasten my seat belt to go up again.

In Carla's Words

My first project at BCG was for the WWF. We worked out of Singapore and Malaysia to support WWF in developing their global palm oil strategy (to prevent deforestation), a very rewarding start of my BCG career. After WWF, I’ve worked for many other clients in very different sectors—such as in engineering services, IT, health care insurance, chemicals, and back to social impact.

What I have learned is that every project taught me different things and therefore made it fun for very different reasons. Some cases were intellectually challenging and a great puzzle to solve, some were interesting because the client team was difficult to manage, and some were very aligned content-wise with what I’m personally passionate about. For me, it has been great to get to know so many different clients and industries and to learn how you can add value in such a wide variety of environments.

Q&A

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: The people!

Q: What did you learn in your first year on the job?

A: In my first year on the job I learned to trust my common sense. In the beginning, I found it hard to believe that I could add value to a client’s problem with my little to nonexistent experience and knowledge about the client’s industry. Soon I discovered that it is actually the fresh perspective and the structured mind that they need the most.

Q: Why did you choose to work at BCG?

A: I was looking for a work environment that would challenge me, that would give me international opportunities, and that focuses a lot on personal development. On top of that, for me, BCG Amsterdam always felt like a very good place when I participated in recruiting events. I decided to follow that initial feeling and haven’t been disappointed.
