Lara Is a Collaborative Challenger

Associate, Amsterdam

At BCG, Challengers go against expected thinking and inspire their teams to be truly innovative. Lara empowers and inspires others.

A valuable thing a BCG mentor told me is to openly communicate all doubts, because for whatever doubt, there has at least been one other BCGer who has gone through the exact same thing—and everyone is more than willing to help!

Lara

In Lara's Words

At first, I thought my background would be too unconventional to be able to work at BCG. The World Food Program business course showed me that a specific academic background is not the most important prerequisite for the “ideal consultant.” Working at BCG is about being able to think logically but also creatively, connect with other people, and dare to act. Aspects that give me a lot of energy!

One of the reasons I love my job at BCG are the valuable interactions I have with colleagues. In the short period I have worked for BCG, I have found many mentors already. These are mentors of all levels: peers and project leaders, but also partners who all go the extra mile to ensure maximum growth and development for me. A valuable thing a BCG mentor told me is to openly communicate all doubts, because for whatever doubt, there has at least been one other BCGer who has gone through the exact same thing—and everyone is more than willing to help!

About Lara

Lara joined BCG in September 2015 and holds a degree in logic from the University of Amsterdam.

Q&A

Q: What characteristics do you believe define a BCGer?

A: BCGers are down-to-earth, empathetic, eager to learn, highly energetic, and lots of fun! The vibe in the Amsterdam office is absolutely great. In my second week at BCG, in an international training, I found out that this does not only hold for the Amsterdam office. The features I describe here seem to be common factors among all BCGers worldwide.

Q: Why did you choose to work at BCG?

A: I was looking for a company that cares about my growth and development, almost more than I do myself. Second, I wanted to work in an environment that would provide me with exciting opportunities, both internationally and nationally. Third, I found it very important to feel at home at work. All of this I found at BCG as an employer, complemented with a group of extremely fun people I really wanted to call my colleagues.

Q: If you could compare what you do with any other job, what would you say?

A: I’d say my job is both more adventurous and exciting, but also more challenging, compared with many other jobs. Switching projects every few weeks or months enables me to constantly try out and discover new things. It also allows me to discover multiple countries and cultures. However, being a consultant is not an easy job. I am continuously challenged to get out of my comfort zone and can never just sit back and relax!
