At BCG, Visionaries navigate complexity with ease. They use their insight and intuition to identify the solutions that will create lasting impact. Namrata goes deep to understand challenges.
At BCG, I have found managers who are truly committed to my development. They challenge me with experiences outside my comfort zone while making sure I have the support and guidance I need to succeed.
As much as I enjoyed my experience in investment banking, I found myself eager to explore new industries and functional areas when I started graduate school. BCG has allowed me to dive deep into a diverse set of questions on operational efficiency, organizational effectiveness, strategy implementation, and much more.
For example, a few months after graduating from business school, I found myself “thought partnering” with senior oil and gas clients on how to best optimize their portfolio of assets. Then, just a few weeks later, I was working in a large metropolitan school district, speaking with the chief academic officer about the most effective way to increase the number of students reading on grade level. This was the richness and range of experiences I had been eagerly awaiting, and I was thrilled to find it at BCG.
Namrata earned an MBA from Harvard Business School. She also graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a BBA in finance.
Q: What is a typical day like for you?
A: One of my favorite things about BCG is that there truly is no typical day. During my tenure as a consultant, I have found myself running focus groups with kindergarten teachers, presenting to energy company executives on the impact of regulation changes, facilitating workshops on effective organization design, writing surveys for college students to learn about their career aspirations, and building financial models to understand the effect of commodity price changes. From my perspective, it's this diversity in experiences that ensures that you will continue to learn, grow, and deliver results in your role as a consultant.
Q: What’s your home office environment like?
A: It's hard to beat a Friday in the Houston office. We have catered lunches every week, all-you-can-eat beef jerky, Cinco de Mayo happy hours, Go Texan Day festivities, and all kinds of other fun stuff! The office is a very lively, supportive environment with folks bustling around, sharing stories with one another about their weeks on the road, brainstorming frameworks on the whiteboard with their case teams, or attending training sessions on meeting facilitation. Fridays are my favorite day of the week in large part because they bring me back to the Houston office to be around some of my favorite people.
Q: What groups or organizations have you gotten involved with at BCG?
A: I am part of the organizing team for the South System Women@BCG Conference, which is a great forum for the women across the South System to network, share stories and advice, and celebrate our successes. I am also a co-affiliation lead for BCG's new Asian Diversity Network, which aims to provide BCGers with a supportive and inclusive work environment—largely through our dim sum outings and first annual retreat in Las Vegas! Personally, I have found these networks extremely helpful in terms of finding mentors, getting practical and targeted advice, and developing a strong support system at BCG.
