Take many of the opportunities (project, travel, and social) that BCG offers. Learning is an iterative process, so listen; be brave enough to share your own ideas and volunteer for projects and initiatives.
I started my career in medical statistics. I've always had a deep fascination with the loose patterns and complexity of nature and biology. My previous work experience is quite varied, from academic research in the slums of Mumbai, Pune, and Mysore to evaluating the effectiveness of Facebook advertising for its clients. Working at BCG has increasingly satisfied my appetite to learn about new analytical challenges and to work with clients and stakeholders of all levels from a wide range of industries across the business.
The global collaboration and teaming across BCG is amazing. Although it's a global company, there is still a strong sense of belonging. I work with a small but very tight team of analysts in London; the team is embedded within a global team with multiple locations in Europe, North America, and the Asia-Pacific region. I conduct analysis and do the project management for other pieces of analysis, which means that I have to understand the briefs set by clients and to scope out the skills and team capacity resources. I then assign the task to a suitable member of the team based on experience, knowledge, and interest. I feel that my team is really able to contribute to decisions that are made by the case teams and that our input to client cases is invaluable. My role also involves recruiting, providing analytical training to the case teams, and providing ongoing support, knowledge sharing, and development to the team.
At BCG, my suggestions and ideas are always encouraged and considered, and I have had the opportunity to work autonomously in an environment in which everyone's contribution is valued. One of the real benefits of working at BCG is that the firm has provided me with a lot of career development and personal opportunities through their diverse trainings, internal and external talks, and social activities. The people are what truly set BCG apart from other places I have worked. They are so supportive, outgoing, and intelligent. I have learned so much just from listening to their advice and experiences as we work together.
Nicola holds a BSc in biology and statistics from The University of Leeds and an MSc in statistics with applications in medicine from The University of Southampton.

A: I really appreciate having a mentor. It's great to have someone who you can just chat to about how your work is going and any challenges that you might be facing.
