BCG’s internship programs give students from many disciplines and backgrounds the opportunity to get a true feel of what it’s like to work at BCG—and to experience the life of a consultant.

Working as an intern at BCG is more than an opportunity to bolster your résumé. It also offers the potential to launch a career at BCG, as a vast majority of our interns receive offers for full-time positions.

As a BCG intern, you’ll be able to apply what you’ve learned at school and through personal experience to a real client challenge. You’ll work with and be mentored by BCG consultants, and you’ll take responsibility for specific components of a client project. As a case team member, you’ll gain a 360-degree perspective on life as a BCG consultant—from working on client projects to socializing with colleagues.

BCG Johannesburg offers two different internships programs

  • the visiting associate program for students currently pursuing their undergraduate diploma
  • the summer consultant program for students currently registered in an MBA

My internship experience with BCG stood out because of the high degree of responsibility and senior client interaction I had on day one.

By asking questions we might not ask, interns challenge the very core of our assumptions. These questions are sure to lead us to more balanced, considered solutions.

An internship at BCG is all about unparalleled experiences, learning, and friendships.

Internships are generally one to two months long – 4 weeks for local visiting associates and 8 weeks for summer consultants – and typically take place over the June-August period. Some interns travel—including abroad—but return to their home offices at the end of each week for special events and social activities. This helps them meet other interns, get to know BCG consultants, and have some fun along the way.

Recruiting process typically runs between February and April for our visiting associates and December and February for the summer consultants.

If you are selected for one of our programs, we’ll work with you to understand your interests and assign you to a case that aligns with your personal and professional goals. Past interns have helped solve a range of interesting challenges, from developing a low-cost/discounter strategy for a South African grocer to completing a social impact return on investment assessment for a local non-governmental organization.

Orientation and training sessions aimed at providing additional insight into the consulting profession are offered throughout your internship, giving you a complete view of what it would be like to work as a BCG consultant after you graduate.

We accept online applications from exceptional business school, engineering, science, and humanities students who are nearing the completion of their undergraduate or graduate studies.
