Taking the Steps Toward a Digital Transformation

One of the best ways for a corporation to quickly change its organization and processes to compete in today’s digital realm is to engage with start-ups. In this way, BCG’s Thomas Gumsheimer explains, a corporation cannot only diversify its portfolio but also learn how start-ups operate and how their employees interact—and can then adapt this collaboration into the overall corporate culture.

Thomas Gumsheimer is a core member of The Boston Consulting Group's Technology Advantage, Industrial Goods, and Transformation practices. He leads BCG's work in digital transformation and big data in Central Europe, Middle East, and Africa. He rejoined The Boston Consulting Group in October 2014.

Thomas has extensive experience in developing and implementing strategies and large programs, especially corporate and organization transformation programs, as well as digital transformation and cost-saving programs. Two of his recent technology projects involved digital strategy for both a European IT provider and a European energy provider.

Before rejoining BCG in 2014, Thomas was a partner and director at Bain, where he led the IT practice group in Germany. Thomas was also a member of the board and chief operating officer of GFT Technologies, a European systems integrator. From 1993 to 2000, Thomas worked at BCG, leaving as a partner for e-business and IT.
