Thomas Steffens

Thomas Steffens joined The Boston Consulting Group in 2005, after a three-month internship in 2004. He is a core member of the firm’s Industrial Goods, Corporate Development, Strategy, and Public Sector practices.

Thomas’s primary focus is logistics—rail, road, mail, parcels, and e-commerce. He also concentrates on the public sector (for example, immigration, legislation, and economic growth), strategy, corporate finance, regulation and lobbying, pricing, pro bono roles in development, the arts, and nature conservancy.

Thomas has experience recruiting, training, and coaching in Taiwan, Ecuador, Tanzania, the US, Australia, and multiple European countries. He has carried out projects in financial services, industrial goods, consumer goods, and public transport. He has worked on many client projects in financial services—both banking and insurance and pensions. Thomas has a special interest in semipublic industries—such as public transport, health care, and postal—and corporate development.

As a student, Thomas interned for six months in the department of credit risk management at Rabobank International and completed a project with Deutsche Bundesbank. After his studies, he volunteered at a primary school in Ecuador. Thomas contributed to the 2015 BCG report Revolution in the Driver’s Seat: The Road to Autonomous Vehicles. Besides his native Dutch, he is fluent in English, German, and Spanish.
