Rio de Janeiro founded in 2010

BCG's Rio de Janeiro office puts the firm in the heart of Brazil's second-largest city. While it is known globally as a premier tourist destination, the city is also the headquarters of major Brazilian companies such as Petrobras and Vale, as well as major oil companies, telecom companies, and the largest conglomerate of media and communications companies in South America, the Globo Organizations. Rio is also the home of numerous universities and institutes, and it is the second-largest center of research and development in Brazil.

Rio de Janeiro has the second largest GDP of any city in Brazil, with the services sector accounting for more than 65 percent of the total. Other major industries with a presence in the city include oil refining, shipbuilding, steel, metallurgy, petrochemical, gas, chemical, textile, printing, publishing, pharmaceutical, beverages, cement, and furniture. Many large, multinational companies have opened offices in the city over the last several decades, and the discovery of oil in the Campos Basin, which accounts for most of the total oil production of Brazil, has led many oil and gas companies to establish bases in Rio de Janeiro.

Our team in Rio de Janeiro would be happy to discuss the opportunities and challenges that this metropolitan region presents.
