Darwin Smith

Partner & Managing Director, Calgary Recruiting Director

Darwin Smith is a Partner & Managing Director at BCG's Calgary office. He joined the firm in 2007. Darwin is a core member of BCG's Energy Practice, and has worked primarily in Energy and Industrial Goods across a variety of functions since joining BCG. He participated in BCG’s Ambassador program in 2010 where he spent a year working with clients in Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia. He has helped clients develop growth strategies, perform strategic due diligences for prospective acquisitions, and lead project management offices for business transformations. Darwin is currently based in Calgary where he is partnering with Ross to build BCG's presence in Western Canada. Darwin earned his MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary and is a Professional Engineer. Prior to joining BCG, Darwin worked as a Drilling Engineer for a Canadian oil and gas company in the UK, Yemen, and Canada.

Mathilde Bertin

Recruiting Associate

Mathilde joined BCG in July 2015 as a Recruiting Assistant and has since been promoted to a Recruiting Associate. She supports the recruiting efforts for Advanced Degree Candidates and outside of Ontario schools at both the associate and consultant level. Prior to working for BCG, Mathilde worked in HR for a leading North American home improvement retailer, as well as the Canadian Executive Service Organization (CESO), where she helped match First Nations entrepreneurs and small businesses with volunteer advisers based on their organizational needs and stages of growth. While pursuing her BA degree at McGill University in Montréal, Mathilde also interned as a community health and conservation volunteer in Uganda. Growing up, she lived in Asia, Europe and Canada, and is fluent in English, French, and speaks Nepali and Spanish. In her spare time, Mathilde enjoys outdoor activities, reading, traveling and spending time with her Welsh Terrier.

Lawrence Kuo

Recruiting Partner

Lawrence Kuo is a Partner in BCG’s Toronto office. He joined the firm as an Associate in 1999 after working as a Mechanical Design Engineer at a startup in the Silicon Valley. Since joining BCG, Lawrence has developed strategies to enhance growth, drive operational efficiency and restructure organizations. He has also managed client relationships across telecom, media, consumer goods and pharmaceuticals. In 2007, Lawrence left BCG and joined Rogers Communications. Lawrence first joined the strategy group at Rogers as the Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Planning. In this role, he worked to develop and implement key strategic initiatives across the Wireless, Cable and Media companies. Lawrence subsequently held the position of Vice President, Video Product Management where he was responsible for delivering $1.9B in video revenue. After spending almost 6 years with Rogers, Lawrence returned to BCG as a Principal in 2013. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Queen’s University, a Master of Science from Stanford University and an MBA from Columbia University. When not at work, Lawrence enjoys running, skiing, playing piano and spending time with his wife and two daughters.

Aaron Baskerville Bridges

Associate, University of Calgary Lead

Aaron joined the Boston Consulting Group's Calgary office in 2016 after working as a Summer Associate in 2014. His work has been primarily focused on the energy and technology sectors. Prior to joining BCG, Aaron worked in oil and gas reserves evaluation at McDaniel & Associates, where he modeled production and cash flow for Canada's largest oil and gas companies, as well as providing economic modeling support for mergers and acquisitions.

Aaron completed his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary, where he received the President's Award for outstanding academic performance and community service. Outside of work, Aaron likes to keep active and volunteers with the Canadian Cancer Society.

Victor Basu

Associate, University of Alberta Lead

Victor joined the Calgary office as an Associate in 2017. He earned a Bachelor of Commerce (with distinction) with a major in Finance and a minor in Operations Management from the University of Alberta. Prior to joining BCG, Victor held internships in investment banking at RBC Capital Markets and marketing at Mitre Media. At BCG, Victor has case experience across a variety of industries, including industrial goods, technology, retail, and energy. Outside of work, Victor enjoys boxing, playing guitar and singing, and travelling.

Eligibility: Students enrolled in their penultimate year of studies scheduled to graduate in 2019. MBA students are eligible for the summer consultant role, and undergraduates and other Master’s students are eligible for the summer associate role.
