The best part of working at BCG Platinion is teaming up with amazing and highly motivated individuals who inspire me to always bring my best. Working on exciting challenges and accomplishing groundbreaking transformations for our clients, with incredibly talented team members, is very energizing and gives me a sense of achievement.
My career began at a startup before they were called startups, exploring ways to monetize customer data using mobile phones. Then I built my career in various technology roles, helping multinational firms implement large-scale transformations. Moving to BCG, I wanted to use my technology background to help clients tackle their biggest problems, get closer to their customers, and innovate for the future.
BCG Platinion has given me opportunities to partner with the most senior decision makers at domestic and multinational enterprises to shape the future of their company. I also enjoy playing an active role in the BCG Fit Club in New York City as the captain of the Platinion soccer team and BCG JPMorgan Corporate Challenge team.
Alex holds a bachelor of science from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. He has worked in the technology sector in Australia, Southeast Asia, and North America since 2001.
Q: Why did you choose to work at BCG Platinion?
A: Working with technology for over 17 years across various industries, I have a unique perspective and wanted to leverage my experience to help leaders shape the future of their organizations through transformational change. I knew about BCG’s leading position in the consulting industry and its broad set of capabilities that decision makers call on to help them make the right choices tailored to their needs. Combining such opportunities and challenges with my experiences felt like a natural match. BCG felt like the place I could truly tap into my skills and apply them for maximum impact.
Q: How do you get to utilize your unique skill set within a team?
A: We typically work in multidisciplinary teams that could comprise consultants from BCG, Platinion, and Digital Ventures/GAMMA. As part of the ramp-up process, we quickly ascertain everyone’s expertise and areas of strength and carve up the work accordingly. My role as a technology lead often focuses on architecture, data management and cloud strategy, robotic process automation, and DevOps. I develop a deep understanding of the problem and formulate a solution, including a roadmap to deliver the desired outcomes.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: In a sentence: It’s the exposure to real-world challenges faced by leaders of major global corporations. Each case is a new learning experience, with the case team coming together to solve the unique challenges confronting the client.
Q: How has BCG helped you grow and succeed?
A: The depth of knowledge and self-starting motivation expected of each BCGer has encouraged me to grow professionally as well as expand the breadth and depth of my skills. Many organizations are great places to work, but I haven’t experienced an environment that’s so enjoyable and conducive to delivering outstanding performance anywhere else.
Q: What is something that has surprised you about working at BCG?
A: The friendliness and cooperative nature of the people struck me when I started at BCG Platinion. Truly great bonds are built between case team members, and those bonds continue to grow over time. Everyone is invested in your success with each client engagement.
