One simply never stops learning at BCG, thanks to the projects we do, the clients we work with, and, mainly, thanks to the amazing people that work here.
During my undergrad, I realized that I really enjoy leading projects and teams, mostly if they have an important impact on society. Therefore, I wanted to have the chance to work where I could be effectively trained to become a successful leader. That is when I thought about working in consulting and applying to BCG.
After a year and a half at BCG, I can only say that my expectations have been exceeded. Besides having had the chance to learn about many different industries and areas, I cannot think of a place where one can so quickly develop key leading skills, such as a capacity to quickly adapt to new situations, to quickly understand complex problems and come up with practical solutions, and to efficiently communicate to and mobilize teams.
But BCG has not only exceeded my expectations in terms of learning. It has exceeded my expectations even further in terms of people. I have had the chance to work with very diverse teams, with people with all kinds of cultural and professional backgrounds. Only one thing has remained constant: I have always found incredibly smart, highly committed, and amazingly fun BCGers, many of whom will remain very good friends for the rest of my life.
Prior to joining BCG, Andrés worked at the Social Investment Bank, a professional services organization focused on investment banking and fund structuring/management projects, leveraging impact investing and shared value creation concepts. Andrés graduated cum laude in industrial engineering and mechanical engineering from Los Andes University.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Every project is an entirely new adventure, filled with new learning opportunities, new experiences, new people, and new friends. The only thing that remains constant is that you will always have an amazing team of BCGers to work with and rely on.
Q: How has BCG helped you grow and succeed?
A: BCG has helped me effectively develop three skills that every successful leader must have: the ability to quickly adapt to new situations, to quickly understand complex problems and come up with practical solutions, and to efficiently communicate to and mobilize teams.
Q: What’s the biggest impact you have had with your work?
A: During my first year at BCG, I had the opportunity to play an important role in a transformation project for one of the most important companies in Colombia. Our project's accomplishments had a significant and direct economic and social impact in my country.
