At BCG, I enjoy a truly unique human experience. The learning and personal development model is based on quality exchanges, strong collaboration, and shared curiosity.
During my studies in business school, I did two internships that led me to choosing consulting as a career. The first internship was within the marketing department of a large corporation, and it made me want to explore other fields of expertise and industries. I understood that I needed diverse experiences. The second internship, within a corporate bank, met the needs of my analytical mind but lacked a business vision—a strategic dimension. I therefore decided to enter the consulting field. I chose BCG mostly because of the people I met during interviews: accessible and humble, including at the highest hierarchical level. A partner met with me and dedicated time to me. What he told me then proved absolutely true: "At BCG, you will learn your whole life long, and you must come here with this in mind." Over a year and a half, I learned to ask the right questions and address an extremely wide range of issues, I developed teamwork and adaptation skills, and most of all I learned to learn on a continual basis.
The confidence everyone places in you and the responsibilities you are very quickly entrusted with are extremely powerful learning drivers. After a week, I went to visit a client on my own. During internal meetings, our ability to make suggestions and proposals is always valued. This is how you progress and improve.
Camille holds a business degree from the ESSEC and joined BCG after an end-of-course internship.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I learn on a continuous basis, every single day, about business, other people, and myself. Such is the strength of BCG. I learn about business, of course, because each assignment makes me discover a new industry and a new issue. It is both striking and extremely satisfying to see that you can become an expert in so little time. I also learn a lot about others. Since I joined BCG, I have never worked with the same teams, principals, or partners more than once. There is no better way to develop your adaptation skills, understand the various ways of working, and understand the richness of teamwork. Last, I learn a lot about myself. Under stressful conditions, you soon discover not only your areas for improvement but also the strengths you can rely on. I never feel alone in these various types of learning. We are coached by a mentor and the feedback culture is extremely important at BCG.
Q: Why did you choose to work at BCG?
A: The feeling I had was decisive. My work environment and the people I am going to interact with are extremely important to me. From the very first interviews, I liked the simplicity, clarity, and availability of the consultants that I met. During the case studies of my recruiting process, I liked the way of thinking and addressing an issue, as well as the quality of exchanges. Last, BCG provided me with true mobility opportunities as well as extremely diverse specialties and career paths.
Q: What’s your home office environment like?
A: I find the atmosphere excellent at the Paris office. Consultants share the same frame of mind and help each other a lot. You can always find someone who's willing to answer a question about a topic that he or she knows well or a matter of methodology, or simply to exchange views on an issue. Principals and partners are always generous with their advice. It is easy to ask for their help. Last but not least, many bonding events are regularly organized. Every Friday evening, we can enjoy after-work social time together. There is also a Christmas party and a yearly offsite weekend event, which will be held in Italy this year.
