Associate Researcher, Shanghai
At BCG, Explorers are unafraid to embark on new journeys. They try new solutions to untangle complex problems and drive transformational change. Chen seeks a new perspective.
The greatest thing I've learned at BCG so far is that you should never be afraid of asking questions, no matter how simple they may seem; people are always happy to lend a helping hand.
After five years of studying political science and a brief working experience in another research firm, I was no stranger to the research industry. However, BCG has taken the challenges to the next level and further broadened my horizons by exposing me to a wide variety of analysis and offering me the daily opportunities to interact with experts who know different industries inside and out.
BCG works hard to create a learning atmosphere in which everyone is encouraged and supported to take on new challenges and explore new areas. I learn new things on a daily basis both from my work and my colleagues, not to mention from the numerous training sessions that BCG has to offer. Most important, BCG values every opinion, regardless of title and tenure. I am constantly asked to express my thoughts on those topics I've done research on. Conducting research at BCG is not simply about collecting lots of different pieces of information but also about putting together puzzle pieces and generating your own answers.
Chen holds a master’s degree from University College London in public policy and a bachelor degree from University of Nottingham in international studies and Spanish.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The thing I like most about BCG is its supportive and nurturing culture. My superiors do not only care about business but also spend a lot of time guiding me and making sure I can develop my career in a sustainable and balanced manner.
Q: How has BCG helped you grow and succeed?
A: BCG has introduced me to a group of knowledgeable and approachable colleagues from whom I receive kind help and insightful advice every day. In addition, I have taken numerous online and offline training sessions in topics such as Excel and slide writing as well as courses on industry trends.
Q: What characteristics do you believe define a BCGer?
A: I think it is nearly impossible to define a BCGer in a few words. BCG is such a diverse community composed of people from every corner of the world with very different cultures and backgrounds. However, one common characteristic that BCGers possess is curiosity. We're all curious about the world and interested in making it a better place.
