At BCG, Challengers go against expected thinking and inspire their teams to be truly innovative. Christiana is unafraid to try new things.
What I like the most about BCG is that I get to keep learning and challenging myself.
My background is in theoretical physics, so it was a big change for me coming to BCG. What I was surprised about when I joined was how quickly I was trusted, given responsibility, and started engaging with clients. I value the immediate impact we have on our clients and how diverse our teams are—including PhDs, lawyers, and many other backgrounds.
During my early years at BCG, I worked on several industries and functions, but then I started working in retail and found a home there. Given my background, what I enjoy in retail is understanding supplier or customer behavior through data.
Christiana has a BA and MSci in physics from University of Cambridge and a PhD in theoretical particle physics from MIT.
Q: How has the LGBT Network helped you in your BCG career?
A: The LGBT Network has given me a global group of people within BCG that I can connect with on case work, learn from their expertise, and interact with socially. It is important for me to know that BCG has my back on being openly LGBTQ as I do my work within BCG and at clients.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I enjoy the fast-learning pace of my job. I continue to challenge myself; by the time you get comfortable in one position, you are asked to perform the next. The work varies frequently, and you are never bored. Location, team, content, and client are always changing.
Q: What international experiences at BCG have been the most interesting for you?
A: There are two international projects that stand out to me as the most interesting so far. I worked in Amsterdam on a retail client for five months, helping them improve their operating model. The other is the retail work I did in Asia (Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Seoul) for one month.
Q: What are some of your favorite things to do outside of the office?
A: Outside the office, I enjoy playing music. I play the piano, guitar, bouzouki, and I also sing. I love to travel, and I consider juggling one of my favorite pastimes.
Q: How would you describe the BCG community?
A: The BCG community is a very collaborative, non-competitive, driven, smart group of people.
