One of the most amazing parts about working at BCG is the immediate access to thought leaders and industry experts. The entirety of the firm—and beyond—is there to support the shaping of a solution to any problem.
As a military officer, I was exposed to a wide variety of challenges over the course of my career from tactical decisions on a battlefield to technical project management. My most enjoyable moments as an officer were leading small teams as we tried to accomplish a difficult mission, often under-resourced with very stringent time constraints.
When I decided to transition out of the military, I wanted to join an organization where I could effectively leverage my past as well as continue to grow professionally. BCG aligned perfectly with the type of organization I was looking for—an extremely supportive, apprenticeship-driven environment filled with very smart and capable people who passionately seek to find the right answer.

Q: How do you maintain a sustainable career balance at BCG?
A: BCG culture naturally attracts extremely demanding, hard-working people. However, there is a very consistent and fundamental commitment to achieving a work-life balance across all levels. As a result, I have been able to effectively have an impact and contribute to teams while having sufficient time for personal pursuits with family and friends.
Q: What is something that has surprised you about working at BCG?
A: Coming from an extremely hierarchical environment, I actively sought out firms with a much flatter organizational structure. What has surprised me at BCG is just how flat the organization really is. I've often found myself engaging a senior partner or expert from the other side of the globe in one-on-one conversations mere hours after initially reaching out to him or her.
Q: How has your military experience helped you in your career at BCG?
A: If there is one constant in the military, it is that you are often asked to develop solutions on-the-go with few resources. This type of environment fosters a staunchly pragmatic outlook that favors action over detailed planning. At BCG, there are times when the scope of a project may shift and the team has to adjust accordingly. The ability to quickly adapt and drive practical solutions is a helpful and directly transferrable outlook.
