Diarra Is a Courageous Challenger

At BCG, I get to be all of who I am! In this kind of open culture, growth doesn’t fit one model—and neither does our collective impact have bounds.

In Diarra’s Words

I am passionate about doing new and big things. Is there a challenge that hasn’t been quite addressed? Could doing so materially improve the world we live in, the work that engages our passions and energies, and the relationships we build? Will I grow and contribute to the growth of others in doing so? Sign me up!

As a physician now working with clients on their most urgent and often transformative challenges across the health care spectrum, I have the privilege and responsibility of doing something meaningful. While my academic training in neurosciences, medicine, and business prepared me for breakthrough contributions, BCG is providing the platform, intellectual capital, and critical mass that is catalytic to my connecting the dots and having a real, constructive impact on health care and our society. Because reimagining the art of the possible is fundamentally in my DNA, BCG is the ideal place for me to be a leader who connects the dots for my clients and teams, achieving tremendous growth and impact as a result.

About Diarra

Diarra holds an AB, magna cum laude, in cognitive neurosciences, an MD, and an MBA each from Harvard University.

Q: What is a typical day like for you?

A: If I am on my A game, then my day starts with a 5:30 workout at the gym, reading the Wall Street Journal while I am either on the StairMaster or spinning. After a filling breakfast (oatmeal in the winter, eggs in the summer, and who knows what when I am traveling), I head to the office or often (ideally) to the client site. I find it useful to begin the workday with a team huddle, aligning on priorities for the day and understanding where we are facing challenges or getting to breakthrough insights. Then the fun starts with informal team problem solving and interactions with the client. I also look forward to finding time in the day for my own “thinking time,” when I get to perform an analysis or go deep on a particular aspect of the case.

Q: How do you maintain a sustainable career balance at BCG?

A: Balance is a misnomer. This is about proactive and self-directed optimization. Sometimes the work I am doing takes precedence because that is the choice I want to make. Other times, reconnecting with friends, enjoying performing arts, or engaging in my community contributions is of more significant importance to me. Making these kinds of choices for myself and with my teams makes being at BCG not only sustainable, but ideal.

Q: If you weren’t working at BCG, what would you be doing?

A: Running a high-end bakery with international outlets. Bon appétit!
