I studied communications in Amsterdam and have since then worked for several multinationals in the Netherlands. What attracted me to BCG is the combination of a high-paced and challenging environment and working with smart and creative people.
The first thing that struck me when I joined BCG is the sense of cooperation. Everybody is willing to help one another, because people here see the value in achieving results together. In addition, what gives me a sense of empowerment is that I am able to work very autonomously, while at the same time receiving guidance.
What I enjoy most about my work here is the breadth, not only in activities but also in the content and topics and the variety of people that you get to work with.
Dieuwertje earned her master’s degree in communication science, with a minor in work and organizational psychology, at the University of Amsterdam. Before joining BCG, she gained experience in corporate communications, public relations, and brand management at various listed Dutch companies.
Q: What is a typical day like for you?
A: To be honest, there is no such thing as a typical day. Because of the great variety in the work of our department, every day is different. Sometimes we are planning an event—visiting locations or making invitations—while other days we are working on a media relations plan or an online communications approach. The diversity is what makes it fun!
Q: What did you learn in your first year on the job?
A: Don’t be afraid to ask for help. You are surrounded by smart, creative, and enthusiastic people here. Why not make use of it?
Q: What does innovation mean to you?
A: Innovation is about understanding what is going on in the world around us and staying one step ahead of the game in order to continuously achieve better results. In our team, we constantly monitor the developments in our field of expertise and challenge each other to come up with new concepts and ideas that will inform, surprise, and inspire our audiences.
