What I most like about BCG are the people. I am always surrounded by smart, fun, ambitious, and like-minded people who make BCG a great place to work.
Working at BCG has given me unparalleled exposure to senior executives and client teams of different backgrounds. I have worked with large energy companies in five different countries in Eastern and Western Europe and also in South Africa. This has helped me to bring my communication skills to a new level.
My assignments have spanned all kinds of high-stake topics including growth strategy, turnaround, reorganization, M&A, and regulatory management—which has posed an immense intellectual challenge, forcing me to continuously step up my problem-solving skills.
Most important, these projects have given me the opportunity to work with amazing teams to overcome all challenges and provide value to our clients.
Of all my projects, I’m most proud of the growth strategy work we did for a Danish utility, which provided unique insights to the client team, sparked the excitement of the CEO, and led to the formulation of a trusted partnership between BCG and the client.
István holds a CEMS master's in international management degree from Corvinus University of Budapest and the University of St. Gallen. He joined BCG straight out of university and has been with the company since 2012. In 2015, he moved to BCG’s London office for a one-and-a-half-year period.
Q: When did you know you belonged at BCG?
A: I knew I belonged to BCG after I attended the BCG Strategy Cup in Budapest. I worked with a great team on a really exciting case that I still vividly remember—even though it was five years ago. On top of this, I connected really well with our BCG coach, whom I consider my friend today.
Q: What international experiences have been the most interesting for you?
A: My most interesting international experience was a refinery strategy review project in South Africa, which was both extremely challenging and exciting. I had to quickly understand the dynamics of the African market and develop market scenarios and diesel supply curves while I was exposed to a culture and country that was new to me.
Q: What trends are you following and why?
A: During my career at BCG I have become really passionate about energy, especially green and sustainable energy. Therefore I follow every trend that is related to it, be it changes in climate policies, solar market trends, electric cars—you name it.
