My background is very nonbusiness, since I studied modern languages and literature and worked in teaching and translating. Joining BCG enabled me to gain rapid exposure to multiple industries and embark on a hugely rewarding career and personal journey that has taken me across multiple industries and geographies, working with some truly amazing people on fascinating challenges.
Had I picked a different career, I doubt I’d have ever had the chance to work on health care in Morocco, for example, or grocery retail in the Asia-Pacific region or financial services in the UK—all in such a short space of time and for such a sincerely respected brand as BCG.
What makes BCG unique is the mix of people you have the chance to work with—both colleagues and clients. There’s so much variety of thought, ideas, approaches, and talent—within individual offices, countries, and, of course, around the world—which means you never stop learning and discovering new things.
Jamie holds a BA in modern languages from the University of Oxford and before joining BCG worked in Germany and the Czech Republic.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Working with outstanding people who make me feel energized by what I can learn from them. Every day, it is a privilege and a great opportunity to learn from them and with them.
Q: How has BCG helped you grow and succeed?
A: BCG has a very steep learning curve, which can at times be challenging but is also very rewarding as you progress very quickly and cover so much ground. The first time you are given the trust to lead teams or forge a new path on a new topic or with a new client, it can be very exciting and you can feel yourself learning and absorbing day by day with the new responsibility
Q: What’s your home office environment like?
A: We’re growing fast, but we’re still one of the smaller offices—which makes it like a large family. Everyone knows and supports each other inside and outside of work, which was also beneficial for me coming from a nonbusiness background into challenging case work early on.
