North America Learning and Development Manager, Chicago
At BCG, Allies bring a sense of collaboration and excitement to their teams. They create an atmosphere of trust and support in which people can do their best work. Jen seeks a new perspective.
The best part of working at BCG is being part of a firm that is committed to helping you chart your own unique course to success…and will do whatever it takes to help you achieve it.
I have had the unique opportunity to experience many facets of BCG, with each experience leaving me a more inspired and fulfilled person.
I first joined BCG as an associate where I helped deliver real impact to our clients, all while receiving the best business education imaginable. After spending nearly a decade working in the consumer products industry, I returned to BCG in the Consumer practice and served as a knowledge expert and the global marketing manager for the practice. Here, I deepened relationships and my appreciation for the opportunity to work with such extraordinary and talented people every day.
In my current role as the learning and development manager in North America, I have the unique pleasure of helping to shape the next generation of BCGers. It is such a gift to work for a firm that has helped me to grow and develop in so many ways, and to now have the opportunity to do the same for other BCGers.
Jen holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from INSEAD. Jen worked at S.C. Johnson & Son, The Cambridge Group, and Alberto Culver (now part of Unilever) before returning to BCG.
Q: When did you know you belonged at BCG?
A: I knew I belonged at BCG when I realized how many supporters and advocates I had at the firm, and how these people were willing to help me in any way they could to find my right place at BCG. In every role I've held at BCG, I've had the support of others—not only to do my job to the best of my ability, but to help me grow and lead me to future roles that best aligned to my professional ambitions balanced with my personal goals.
Q: Why did you choose to work at BCG?
A: I knew that if I joined BCG, I would have a world-class professional experience that would equip me with the skills and knowledge to do virtually anything I wanted in my career. I knew I would learn more at BCG than I would anywhere else, but I also knew I would be joining a culture where personal growth and development are supported in ways that respect the individual. It is extremely rare to find this combination of factors in most organizations.
Q: How have you benefitted from a mentoring relationship at BCG?
A: The first job I secured in brand management at a major consumer packaged-goods firm after my associate tenure was partially in thanks to a mentor I had at BCG. I discovered my passion for the consumer while working on a consumer packaged-goods case as an associate, and knew that was where I wanted to develop my career. When I made the difficult decision to leave BCG to foster this passion, a senior partner tapped into his network to help me make contacts in the industry. As a result, I secured multiple interviews that eventually led to an offer. My mentor not only helped me get my foot in the door, but also coached me on how to make a real impact based on my experiences at BCG.
