At BCG, Visionaries navigate complexity with ease. They use their insight and intuition to identify the solutions that will create lasting impact. Johanna goes deep to understand challenges.
At BCG, not only did I find constant opportunities for professional development but also wonderful human energy, true pleasure in taking up challenges, and the strength to strive for my desires.
When I graduated from business school, I knew I was not interested in any standard career path. I found my way when working within the strategy department of a large company. There, I met a former BCGer. According to her, BCG was the place where I would find the professional dynamic I was looking for.
After eight years at BCG, I am now a principal. The stimulation generated by such a unique working environment has not diminished. Everyone, without exception, whatever the seniority or function, shares the same level of engagement and the same demanding standards. I never felt any pause in my professional or personal development. To me, something extremely rare motivates BCGers in their day-to-day lives: a dedication to enriching their personalities and carrying out every single assignment with enthusiasm. This human element, inherent to BCG's culture, brings tremendous value to professional practice. People you meet at BCG are so inspirational!

Q: What international experiences have been the most interesting for you?
A: I have been at BCG for eight years now, and I don’t think I have spent more than two or three years in my office in Paris. These international experiences are much more than professional travels, although the travels have already taken me to Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. They enable me to develop a vision and business sense adapted to globalization challenges, learn approaches and backgrounds that are different from one country to another, widen my perspective, and learn how to work in a multicultural environment. Right now, for instance, I am a part of a team that hardly includes two citizens of the same country.
Q: What’s the biggest impact you have had with your work?
A: BCG is strongly involved in social impact initiatives. Each year, hundreds of BCGers contribute to social impact assignments that aim to transform the world for the better. I have taken part in several programs, at both strategic and operational levels. I devoted time to the international medical community in order to define action plans on maternity and childhood issues around the world. I also took advantage of opportunities to improve the efficiency of African health centers by going in the field and assessing the status quo. This dedication of one's skills to such causes provides a unique sense of achievement—the feeling that you are contributing to making things happen. And I am deeply grateful to BCG for providing me with the opportunity to do so.
Q: What is something that has surprised you about working at BCG?
A: When I arrived at BCG, I was a recent graduate with almost no professional experience; but I was also extremely enthusiastic and eager to learn how to analyze an issue and propose solutions. Very soon, a partner welcomed me to his team, saying, "You know, we've been working on this issue for about ten years, and I would really like to know what you think about it." I could not believe it! They wanted to know my ideas as much as those of a more senior consultant! And, of course, I would make my very best efforts to provide an interesting and innovative perspective. Later, I was also struck by BCG's collaborative culture. I cannot remember how many times I could rely on the help and support from our international network of experts! In fewer than 24 hours, they answer your questions with pleasure, simplicity, and efficiency, or direct you to the appropriate people.
