Katie Is a Collaborative Visionary

Alumna, Philadelphia

At BCG, Visionaries navigate complexity with ease. They use their insight and intuition to identify the solutions that will create lasting impact. Katie empowers and inspires others.

BCG has helped me balance a fulfilling career with motherhood.

In Katie's Words

I joined BCG as a medical doctor with no prior business experience and no real idea of what to expect. BCG has supported my development right from the start and through the many different phases of my career—from the early days when I was learning to use Excel, through a mini MBA course in Barcelona, to training within the Health Care practice on the specifics of clinical portfolio redesign.

During the latest phase of my career—balancing work with being a mother to two young girls—BCG has supported me to work flexibly, through two maternity leaves and two returns to work on a part-time basis. I know that whatever the next phase holds, BCG will find a way to make it work.

Q: Why did you choose to work at BCG?

A: I chose to work at BCG because it was the firm that combined global impact—both in terms of projects and of standing—with a warm and approachable culture. I had no prior business experience and was looking for a place that would help me grow in a supportive environment while providing exciting and diverse project experience.

Q: What characteristics do you believe define a BCGer?

A: Although no BCGer is the same—we have consultants ranging from former TV actors to Olympic athletes—most share some common characteristics. We would probably all describe ourselves as insecure overachievers. But I also observe that my colleagues tend to be gifted, curious, interesting, and generous. They approach each challenge with an abundance of good humor. I am constantly in awe of their achievements—past and present—and feel privileged to work alongside them.

Q: What’s your home office environment like?

A: BCG London has changed in so many ways since I joined in 2007. We have tripled in size, moved to a new building (from one beautiful central London location to another), been on four office bonding trips, opened a café in the lounge, and more than doubled the number of women partners. There are countless bonding activities for those who are keen—and most are—ranging from late night poker to sports screenings.  Through all of this, the office has remained welcoming, the atmosphere relaxed and friendly, and face time is still an alien concept.
