Kerstin is a Dynamic Visionary

Project Leader, Casablanca

At BCG, Visionaries navigate complexity with ease. They use their insight and intuition to identify the solutions that will create lasting impact. Kerstin challenges the status quo.

BCG is a place where you meet extremely smart people—both internally and with clients—with whom you learn a lot, try to push your limits, and challenge your ideas.

Kerstin

In Kerstin’s Words

My career vision was clear but seemed hard to put into effect. I wished to explore the tremendous opportunities of the African continent from Morocco, but I did not know how to do it as a woman—and as a German citizen with an unusual background.

Yet, against all odds, it was extremely easy. At BCG, of course, my background and profile are not so unusual. In each office, you find people of various cultures and backgrounds who work towards a common objective: achieving excellence to help our clients push success to the next level.

Very quickly, I worked in many different industries, conducted projects in France, Germany, Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Argentina, Mexico, and Morocco. BCG generates specific momentum. The firm always tries to develop talents, whether internally or within our clients. Helping a coworker develop a particularly complex Excel model, spending hours with our project leader to find a solution to a difficult issue, or managing to change the approach of one of our clients: those are unforgettable moments!

About Kerstin

Q&A

Q: What is a typical day like for you?

A: No two days are the same at BCG. You can be with a client, travel to another country, help a potential candidate, facilitate a recruiting event or a team meeting, call a BCG expert to the other end of the world to get information on a complex issue, or interview an external specialist. In any case, time flies! There is no room for boredom.

Q: When did you know you belonged at BCG?

A: Before I joined BCG, I had already met consultants via presentations in my school, during forums and then directly in Casablanca. I always felt a special affinity for the BCG culture, which is based on humility, high standards, and open-mindedness.

Q: What international experiences at BCG have been the most interesting for you?

A: Facilitating a work meeting with farmers at the heart of the Côte d'Ivoire was an adventure I never dreamed I would live. This experience was one of my richest ever at BCG. I realized the need to understand the specific behavior of African consumers, beyond data and based on reality.

Q: What's the biggest impact you have had with your work?

A: With my team, we had to opportunity to create a management tool for a leading group, which was to be deployed in more than 90 countries. The project aimed to improve the EBITDA by 10% over four years. With our client, we worked hard to finalize that tool and implement it in the various countries. Seeing that this tool was indeed implemented and used by such a huge number of managers, and that it generated such a strong impact, made me extraordinarily proud.

Q: What is something that has surprised you about working at BCG?

A: BCG's success is not based only on what clients can see, such as the work carried out by consultants. Backstage, other teams driven by the same demanding standards also bring value, whether by producing slides, organizing our travels, helping us with a computer problem, or managing our time—in a nutshell, making our daily life easier!
