Senior Financial Analyst, Seoul
At BCG, Seekers go deep into the challenging issues our clients face. Their curiosity empowers our teams to facilitate change and add value to society. Kiwon empowers and inspires others.
My favorite quote is, "Your success is my success." This reminds me that we work as a team and we help each other to become a great team.
My background is in accounting. I worked in an accounting firm for seven years as an auditor. I joined BCG as a project management team leader in the Seoul office and after two-and-a-half years of experience, I became interested in communicating with people from around the world and decided to join the Asia-Pacific regional finance team in a business development and client team support role in May 2015.
I have been fascinated by the diversity of team members. All members came from unique backgrounds and were of different nationalities, and each person has worked in different offices prior to joining the Asia-Pacific regional finance team. We have had the opportunity to work independently and also cooperatively, and we have learned to trust and rely on one another’s expertise. I have learned a lot from other members, and I always feel supported because someone is always there to help me solve tough problems and overcome difficulties.
Kiwon holds an undergraduate degree in business administration from Korea University and has a certified public accountant license. He currently works as a senior analyst in a regional finance team focusing on business development and client team support.
Q: How has BCG helped you grow and succeed?
A: In other companies, there are not many opportunities for secondment to other countries, but at BCG we have a lot of opportunities and the application processes are well set up. After I settled into my previous role, I wanted to challenge myself in a new role. Through this transfer, I was able to get new skills and learn new things. The supportive environment when you apply for a new role is one of the best attributes of BCG.
Q: How do you maintain a sustainable career balance at BCG?
A: Sometimes I work overtime and go for long business trips, and I have to put my work ahead of my family during those times. But when I am not in a busy season, I try to have a longer vacation to completely forget about my job and fully focus on my personal life and family. BCG is very flexible about taking a longer vacation as long as it doesn't impact your job. In addition, work location is very flexible. As long as I am reachable by team members and keep up my productivity, it's acceptable to choose my work location.
Q: What are some of your favorite things to do outside of the office?
A: I have been playing tennis for two years. I have also met various people through an online tennis community. I enjoy playing tennis outdoors on a sunny day and then ending it with a shower and a bottle of beer. One day, I hope to join an amateur tennis tournament.
