At BCG, Challengers go against expected thinking and inspire their teams to be truly innovative. Lena has the courage to take action.
The best part of working at BCG is its people. Not only is everyone incredibly smart and talented but they are truly fun to work with.
My background is in consulting within health care and pharmaceuticals, but BCG has exposed me to a lot of other industries—including media, consumer products and retail, and financial services. I've supported a variety of projects—from developing new operating models and retail formats to redesigning supply chains and advising in strategic M&A decisions.
But beyond the great projects I worked on, I have benefited from the great people and the culture of collaborative problem solving that really makes the job so unique: There is a fascinating wealth of knowledge within the broader BCG network, and I've been stunned to learn how open and forthcoming everyone is in sharing their knowledge and helping with the problem solving of any case. This has helped me learn from not only the more senior people on my cases but experts from all over the BCG network.
Lena holds a master’s in management from London School of Economics and worked as a business consultant in health care and pharmaceuticals before joining BCG.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I enjoy most about my job is the great learning opportunity that comes with every project. You get to dive into and understand a new industry. You're faced with a different business problem each time and learn what it takes to solve it. But most of all, you learn from a new set of incredibly intelligent, knowledgeable, and inspiring people.
Q: How do you maintain a sustainable career balance at BCG?
A: During the week, I can get carried away with the challenges and tasks an interesting project brings along. I keep a healthy balance by planning ahead for a dinner with friends or a night at the theater and doing sports one to two times a week.
Q: What’s your home office environment like?
A: The BCG London office is a really great community, and there are lots of non-work-related activities that many of us engage in and that contribute to the unique office culture we have. On top of this our partner team sponsors annual office events that are a great opportunity for networking and bonding. This includes various sports events, such as climbing or dance classes; theater nights; cocktail-making courses or wine tastings.
