Managing Director & Partner, Budapest
At BCG, Pioneers have the courage to take action on unique insights. They share and activate ideas that enable our clients to gain the competitive edge. Melanie is unafraid to try new things.
What I love most at BCG is that we treat everyone with the highest respect; each voice is heard equally, irrelevant of hierarchy, gender, age, or experience.
I came to BCG as a senior hire (with an MBA and MSc in economics) from another consulting company. From the first day, the company took care me and had special trainings for senior hires. BCG was aware that senior integrations need more time and was very helpful in this process. The company has given me space to further develop my consumer goods know-how, my passion for people and organization topics, and my client relationships.
There were three reasons why I joined BCG: First, my curiosity about the company. I knew that it was the best consulting company to work for, but I was not sure what that meant. Second, my wish to be part of a global growing team and company. And third, I knew BCG was a good place for a woman to work, that the firm was investing a lot in this topic, and that there would be many role models for me.
Before I joined, I asked myself: will the grass be greener when I join BCG or will it be the same? After almost two years, I am sure that grass is greener and that I made the right choice.
Melanie graduated from the University of Ljubljana with a major in economics. She holds an MBA from IEDC Bled School of Management, Slovenia.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love the huge variety and flexibility of our work. Nothing stays the same: the clients change, the context of work changes, team members change, and location changes.
Q: What inspires you about BCG?
A: The people and the teams. I am always impressed that we meet 24 hours before the project starts, from all around the world, and we speak the same language. We respect every individual, and we leverage our differences in order to create the best for our clients.
Q: How do you maintain a sustainable career balance at BCG?
A: For me, sports and family play a huge role. I plan very carefully for both, and I stick to my plans. Sports are important for me physically, since I noticed many years ago that this is the best way for me to manage stress. And family is for me of course important emotionally, since I believe that we all need to have two separate lives to give us balance.
