Monika Is a Courageous Explorer

Working at BCG means continuously reinventing yourself and pushing your boundaries further—they are not meant to hold you in, but only show what you have explored so far.

In Monika’s Words

I came to BCG with high aspirations of traveling the world and working on topics that make a difference. Looking back, I can say that BCG delivered; I've had projects in Western, Eastern, and Southern Europe, South America, Asia, and Australia. My projects have covered a range of topics, but all of them moved and changed the companies we worked for.

The support I have received for my personal growth has also been significant. I was able to take time off to pursue further studies and was welcomed back, as if only two weeks and not two years had passed. My wish to explore more of the world and transfer to Australia was also made possible, with Melbourne quickly becoming a most wonderful home away from home.

About Monika

Monika holds an MPhil in finance from Cambridge University and an MSc in business administration from the University of Jena. She also researched business model innovation in Italy and Australia and holds a PhD from LUISS University.

Q: What is a typical day like for you?

A: The amazing thing is that there is no typical day on a BCG project. The work is so fast-paced and the topics are so high profile that you never know what might come around the corner. On one project, I talked with our AppLabs team in the morning about the status of the new app we were developing, reviewed project progress with the partner, and met with the client communications team in the afternoon about the latest video we were producing.

Q: What international experiences have been the most interesting for you?

A: My most interesting international experience at BCG was a project in Romania in a production plant. The topic was highly engaging, the people so kind and friendly, and the country exceeded all of my expectations. It was also the first time I was the only guest in a hotel, with personalized breakfast and dinner orders and a dedicated waiter just for me.

Q: What’s your home office environment like?

A: The Melbourne office is a warm and friendly place. It is just the right size to know everyone by name, but at the same time it's busy enough to give you the big-city feel. Your desk neighbors quickly become friends and laughter is a key part of any office day. The office is right in the middle of the city with fantastic views toward the ocean and the Australian Open tennis courts! Seeing storm clouds build up over Port Phillip bay and head toward the city and the office on the 52nd floor is just spectacular.
