Partner & Managing Director, New Delhi
At BCG, Visionaries navigate complexity with ease. They use their insight and intuition to identify the solutions that will create lasting impact. Rajiv empowers and inspires others.
There are basically two requirements to succeed at BCG—not necessarily mutually exclusive but completely exhaustive: deliver great insight and value to your clients and deliver great working experience and constructive challenges to your team. The rest takes care of itself!
I am spending my days (and nights!) thinking about various ways in which technology (digital and otherwise) can be unleashed for my clients. I have worked in technology transformation for most of my 19 years in consulting, but the new technologies and the passion of client senior execs to pursue them have brought about almost a new wave of curiosity and learning for me.
BCG has been a truly fungible, entrepreneurial place for me. Although I am the "node" for the Technology Advantage practice in India, I also have had the freedom to pursue client work that I am keen on, or potentially good at. That is the beauty—nobody really leads anything and there is nothing hierarchical about the organization. It is a rather collegiate environment. People work on exciting cases, share their experiences and knowledge, and love intellectual sparring. This is something that really provides the energy and dulls the pain of incessant 6 AM flights!
Rajiv holds an MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A), and a bachelor of technology (electronics and electrical) from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K). He has spent the last 19 years working on large technology transformation programs in the UK and Europe, the US, South Africa, and now India and the APAC region.
Q: Why did you choose to work at BCG?
A: No other place would have given me an opportunity to have access to all the leading business people I would like to work with in order to solve intellectually challenging problems that really stretch me, and work with brilliant individuals who are very unassuming and humble.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love the intellectual challenges we are tasked with solving for clients that are truly making a difference in our lives and with stakeholders who are truly C-suite and decision makers, and I like working with the most intelligent and hardworking individuals.
Q: What’s the biggest impact you have had with your work?
A: We prepared a dashboard and a "what if" analysis and created a related app for a global travel company, well before the wave of analytics had swept the world. The board of that company used this to react to the ash cloud crisis that followed the Icelandic volcano eruption and were able to take action on their assets within hours, saving millions of dollars and significantly outperforming their peers that year.
